- → Syntagma metro station, via Metaxourgeio, Omonia and Panepistimio
Take line 2 toward Elliniko. The 90-minute ticket costs 1.20 euros and is sold at the machines in the station, and a contactless bank card also works at the gates. The ride to Syntagma is about 8 minutes. Syntagma is also the interchange for line 3, which goes to the airport. Keep the ticket until you leave the station, because inspectors check. During 2026 track works the station has closed early at 21:40 from Sunday to Thursday, with the X19 replacement bus, so check before an evening arrival.

Athens taxis start at 1.80 euros and charge 0.90 euros per km by day, with a 4 euro minimum fare. A trip from the station to Syntagma Square of about 2.5 km usually reads 5 to 9 euros depending on traffic and luggage, which makes it an estimate. Luggage over 10 kg is charged extra, and a higher night tariff applies between 00:00 and 05:00. Taxis at the station get used heavily at busy times, so the queue can be long after a train arrives.

The walk takes about 35 minutes. Pavements around Omonia are uneven and can be crowded, so with a large suitcase it is hard going, and many people ride the metro for at least part of the way. It makes sense with a backpack in daylight and a hotel near Omonia or Panepistimiou.

Arriving late at night
Line 2 normally runs until a little after midnight, with extended hours on Friday nights and all-night service on Saturdays. Since 17 May 2026, Larissa Station, Metaxourgeio, Attiki and Sepolia have closed at 21:40 from Sunday to Thursday during track works, and the X19 bus covers the gap between Omonia and Agios Antonios until the metro stops. We could not confirm an end date, so check the STASY notice for the night you arrive. If the metro is not an option, the taxi rank at the station is the dependable choice, with the night tariff from 00:00 to 05:00.
See the comparison →4 people, 4 suitcasesTravelling as a group of four
Four people on the metro pay 4.80 euros in total. A single metered taxi at roughly 5 to 9 euros takes four people and the luggage to the door, so it costs about the same as the tickets and avoids the stairs. For a group with cases the taxi is the better choice from Larissa station.
