København H: getting to the inner city and Nyhavn after midnight
Metro M3 and M4 run all night. After midnight on Friday and Saturday trains come about every 8 minutes, and on other nights about every 20 minutes between 01:00 and 07:00. S-trains also run on Friday and Saturday nights, but you should check the DSB or Rejseplanen for the timetable on other nights. Taxis wait at the station at night and are the easiest choice with luggage.

- → Kongens Nytorv, then 5 minutes on foot to Nyhavn
Follow the signs marked with the M from the main hall to the Reventlowsgade exit and take either M3 or M4. Both run København H, Rådhuspladsen, Gammel Strand, Kongens Nytorv, so any train takes you there in about 5 minutes. A 2-zone single is 24 kroner under the 2026 DOT tariff, bought in the DOT Tickets app or at the metro machines before you ride. The metro runs around the clock. Use the exit at Kongens Nytorv marked Nyhavn.

From the station walk to Rådhuspladsen and follow the pedestrian street Strøget east to Kongens Nytorv, then a short walk to Nyhavn. The ground is flat but some stretches are cobbled and crowded, so a large case is awkward. It takes about 30 minutes to Kongens Nytorv with luggage. This works well with a small bag and for a hotel in the inner city. Otherwise the metro is quicker and still cheap.

Taxi fares in Copenhagen are metered and there is no published fixed fare from the station to the centre. A trip of about 2 km to Nyhavn costs roughly 90 to 130 kroner by day, scaled from the metered fares quoted by Wonderful Copenhagen, and more in the evening and at weekends. Treat the range as an estimate. Most taxis take cards and drivers help with cases. It saves little time over the metro, so it makes sense with heavy bags or after midnight.
Practical tips
- The metro is reached through the Reventlowsgade exit on the west side. Follow the M signs from the main hall.
- The taxi rank is outside the east exit, on the platform 1 side, across the road from Tivoli.
- Lockers and the luggage centre (Bagagecenter) are down the stairs in the corner of the main hall near platforms 11 and 12.
- S-trains run from København H to Nørreport in one stop, then metro M1 or M2 to Kongens Nytorv in one more. It is slower than the direct metro, so use it only if your train arrives on that platform.
- A City Pass Small costs 100 kroner for 24 hours in zones 1 to 4 and pays off from about four rides.
- City bus 26 also connects Hovedbanegården with Nyhavn every 20 minutes or so. Check Rejseplanen for the exact stop.
