Ciampino to Rome: bus, train, taxi and transfer compared
Ciampino has no station of its own, so every public option begins with a bus. Every option in detail
BusRome Airport Bus
- €8
- 60 min
- 05:00–22:30
- → Roma Termini
A single is 8 euros online and 9 euros on board, and the operator quotes about 40 minutes for the ride. Buy online or at the sales points in the arrivals hall. On 4 October the airport board shows departures from 05:00, with the last to Termini at 22:30.
BusTerravision
- €6.50 (estimate)
- 60 min
- 08:30–22:30
- → Roma Termini
Terravision advertises tickets from 6.50 euros, but the price moves with the date and the booking, so treat the figure as a guide. Luggage is free. On 4 October the first coach is 08:30 and the last is 22:30; the board shows 07:30 as the first on 5 October.
TrainCiampino Airlink
- €2.70
- 55 min
- 06:00–22:30
- → Roma Termini by regional train
One combined ticket costs 2.70 euros: 1.20 euros for the 10-minute bus to Ciampino station and the rest for the regional train to Termini. Trenitalia sells it online, in the app and at stations, but not the bus on its own. The change at Ciampino involves platform stairs, so it is hard work with large cases.
MetroBus and Metro A via Anagnina
- €2.70 (estimate)
- 75 min
- 08:55–19:45
- → Anagnina, then Metro A to Termini
The airport board for 4 October shows only five ATRAL departures to Anagnina, at 08:55, 10:45, 15:20, 17:30 and 19:45, so check the board for your day. The total is about 2.70 euros, made of the bus fare and a 1.50 euro ATAC ticket for the metro. The metro leg adds its own ride and wait, so this is slower than Airlink.
TaxiOfficial taxi
- €40 per vehicle
- 35 min
- 24 hours
- → Any address inside the Aurelian Walls
The fare is 40 euros per ride, not per person, and includes all supplements. Only white taxis with a TAXI roof sign and a licence number on the door are official. Anything else at the airport exit may be unlicensed and charge more.
Private carPre-booked private car
- €60 per vehicle (estimate)
- 40 min
- 24 hours
- → Your hotel door
Private transfers start at about 60 euros for a sedan, with a driver who tracks your flight. That is about 20 euros more than the taxi, in return for a fixed quote paid in advance and a named driver at the exit.
The same trip in a different situation
Arriving late at night
For an arrival around 00:30, nothing public is left. On 4 October the last buses to Termini, Rome Airport Bus and Terravision, leave at 22:30, and the Airlink bus also ends at 22:30. The airport rank is the answer: the taxi fare is a fixed 40 euros whatever the hour. A pre-booked car from about 60 euros is the alternative if you want the price confirmed before you land.
See the comparison →4 people, 4 suitcasesTravelling as a group of four
Taxi against buses is a short sum at Ciampino. Four Rome Airport Bus tickets cost 32 euros and four Airlink tickets cost 10.80 euros. The taxi is 40 euros for the whole car, so 10 euros each when four share, only 2 euros more per head than the direct bus and without the walk to the stop. Airlink wins on price but includes a train change with bags. A private sedan seats three, so a party of four needs a taxi or a larger car.

- There is no rail or metro station at the airport, so plan on a bus even for the cheapest route.
- Direct buses go to Roma Termini, where onward trains and metro lines are under one roof.
- Airlink tickets are sold by Trenitalia only as a bus and train pair. Validate the paper ticket before boarding the train.
- Check the airport bus board for your date. The Anagnina service shown for 4 October is sparse compared with the Termini buses.
- Buy Rome Airport Bus tickets online. On board the same single costs 9 euros instead of 8.
- Walk to the white taxi rank only. Fares to central Rome are fixed, so you do not need to negotiate.
