Civitavecchia Port to Rome: train, shuttle, taxi compared
The cruise berths are about 80 km from Rome, and the station is 1.5 km from the port exit at Largo della Pace. The cheap route is a free port shuttle, a walk or a 6 euro bus to the station, then a regional train at 5.10 euros. A taxi or private car costs 130 to 180 euros but removes the transfers, which matters on a day call with a fixed sailing time.

- → Roma Termini
Take the free port shuttle from your berth to Largo della Pace, then walk 15 to 20 minutes along Via Giuseppe Garibaldi and the seafront to the station. The adult second-class single to Rome is 5.10 euros under the current regional tariff, bought at the ticket office, a kiosk or the self-service machines, and validated on the platform. The ticket reads Rome and is priced as to Termini, so a train stopping at San Pietro or Ostiense costs the same. The ride takes roughly 65 to 80 minutes.

- → Roma Termini via the regional train
A special CSP bus runs between the cruise port and Civitavecchia station on ship days only, from about 07:00 to 18:30 or 19:00. It takes around 15 minutes, costs 6 euros each way and is paid on board. You then still need the 5.10 euro train ticket, so the total is 11.10 euros. It saves the walk with luggage but not much time once you count the wait.
TaxiTaxi from the port rank
- €130–€180 per vehicle (estimate)

- → Any address in Rome
Rome taxis have a fixed 130 euro fare between Fiumicino and the port, but Civitavecchia has no published fixed fare to the city, so the meter decides. Guides put it at 130 to 180 euros depending on destination, traffic and tolls, which is an estimate rather than a tariff. Taxis queue outside the port, not at the berths, so expect a short walk or a free shuttle ride first.

A pre-booked sedan starts at about 154 euros for up to three passengers, with a driver who meets you at the cruise terminal. The drive takes about 75 minutes. A car can also be booked for the return, which removes the risk of missing the ship.
The same trip in a different situation
Arriving late at night
Count backwards from the all-aboard time. The ride takes about 65 to 80 minutes on the train, plus 15 to 20 minutes on foot or the 6 euro shuttle, plus a free port shuttle to your berth. Allow roughly two and a half hours from Termini to the gangway. The CSP station bus stops at about 19:00 and the free port shuttle runs to 01:00 until October. On Trenitalia's June to December timetable the last train from Civitavecchia toward Rome leaves at 22:45, and the last from Termini toward Civitavecchia leaves at 23:27, reaching the port town at 00:44. The Civitavecchia Express is not an option: Trenitalia states that it has been suspended since 9 June 2024.
See the comparison →4 people, 4 suitcasesTravelling as a group of four
A taxi at 130 to 180 euros or a car at 154 euros for three means roughly 40 to 60 euros each. Four people on the regional train pay 20.40 euros in total, but they also carry bags through the shuttle and walk. If time is tight and you are four, the taxi is the only door-to-door option that fits everyone, though a sedan seats three. Shared coach seats are cheaper than a taxi but run once a day and leave no flexibility on return.
See the comparison →Practical tips
- Free port shuttles link berths 10, 11, 12, 12bis, 13, 13bis and 25 with Largo della Pace.
- Buy the train ticket before boarding. Civitavecchia is a station where onboard purchase is not allowed.
- The station is about 1.5 km from Largo della Pace. Most of it is flat, but a large case makes the walk harder.
- Pick the train stopping at the Roman station nearest your hotel, since San Pietro, Ostiense and Termini cost the same.
- Confirm the all-aboard time on your cruise line app and work back from it, not from the sailing time.
- Taxis do not wait at the berths. The rank is outside the port, so use the free shuttle first.
